Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill, 2025 referred to Select Committee of Lok Sabha

New Delhi:

The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025, which seeks to decriminalise certain minor offences to promote ease of living and business, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday and referred to a Select Committee. The Bill was introduced amid noisy protests by the Opposition, who were demanding a debate on the voter roll revision in Bihar and other pressing issues.

BJP member Sandhya Ray, who was in the chair, allowed the laying of parliamentary papers and the introduction of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill and the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill.

Bill aims to promote trust-based governance

Introducing the Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said it aims to promote trust-based governance and further ease of doing business in India. The Bill, which proposes amendments to over 350 provisions, was subsequently referred to the Select Committee of the Lok Sabha, which has been directed to present its report on the first day of the next parliamentary session.
